Don’t sew by yourself, sew with Mr. Baron!
Once upon a time, there was a dog who had a dog salon. However, he didn’t cut fur or claws, but calico, canvas, and fulled loden. It was a tailor’s salon…
This is how Marie Mrňávková’s book begins, in which photographs bring to life not only the puppets, scenery, and props from her workshop, but also the unjustly neglected craft of tailoring. As you read, you will immerse yourself in the fascinating world of fabrics, you will long to be able to sew, you will remember the box of buttons your mother had at home, and you may even pull out your great-grandmother’s crocheted blankets. The value of handiwork and the integrity of craftsmanship are the fundamental values that guide Baron the tailor in his business. But will he be able to withstand the competition from the ultra-modern salon of Madame Čekes, who designs elegant models but never sews them herself? What awaits Baron in the big world, where an unfortunate event in his boutique sends him? Will he get his comeuppance in the famous Pařez?
During the discussion of the book Butik pana Barona (Mr. Baron’s Boutique), you can ask the author, artist Marie Mrňávková, any questions you may have.
The discussion is held in Czech language.
