Lecture on the history of Jewish entrepreneurship in the Pardubice region, which began developing after 1848 and ended with World War II. Lecture by: Mgr. Petr Mücke.
As a result of the 1848 revolution, modern civil society began to develop in the Austrian Empire. Serfdom and compulsory labor were abolished, and new trade and commercial regulations were introduced. Most of the existing restrictions on Jews were lifted, opening full opportunities for participation in manufacturing, trade, crafts, and so-called liberal professions. This nearly hundred-year period of freedom came to an end with World War II. During that time, Růžena Weinerová had to give up her business, which was operated in the building of today’s Regional Library in Pardubice.
Růžena Weinerová and other Jews from Pardubice are now commemorated throughout the city by Stolpersteine, whose installation was organized with the contribution of the District Archive in Pardubice.
Lecture will be held in Czech.
