Painter of Modern Life
Édouard Manet is among the most famous French artists. His paintings depict contemporary society with all its contradictions. In this lecture, we will revisit his life story and highlight his significant works, including The Luncheon on the Grass (1863), Olympia (1863), Nana (1877), and A Bar at the Folies-Bergère (1882), which caused numerous scandals when they were first exhibited. Manet shocked the public not only with his choice of subjects but also with his painting style. However, he never assumed the role of a moral judge,he enjoyed life and felt part of the world he depicted.
