Frequently Asked Questions

Will I pay anything?

As a child reader, you pay CZK 60 for one year. You then have access to all parts of the library, not just the children’s department.

Can I borrow things without a reader’s card?

Without a reader’s card you can only return.

Can a friend use my reader’s card?

Absolutely not – your card is only for you. If you can’t come in person, your parents can lend it to you – but no one else. If your siblings also have cards, make sure that you only have your loans on your card: you will avoid inconvenience if your siblings do something with the books and you would have them on your account.

What if I lose or destroy my reader’s card?

It’s not a tragedy. You pay CZK 30 for a new card. The new card is processed at the reception.

Is my reader’s card also valid in other libraries in our city?

If you have a shared card (white card), then yes, you can use it in other city libraries in Pardubice.
The shared card applies to the following libraries: Pardubice Regional Library, libraries of the city districts Doubravice, Dubina, Dukla, Hostovice, Nemošice, Ohrazenice, Pardubičky, Polabiny, Rosice nad Labem, Staré Čivice and Svítkov.

How many books can I borrow?

In the children’s department, you can borrow 10 books (meaning both departments together), plus 10 magazines, 5 audio recordings, 5 e-books, 3 DVDs, 1 playful backpack, 1 board game, 1 Albi electronic pencil and 2 Albi books.

How long is it borrowed for?

Everything is rented for a month. Before the end of the loan, you can have the books extended for another month. Attention: magazines, CDs, games, pencil albums and books and backpacks cannot be extended! Each book can be extended up to twice.

How can I return things?

When returning books, you do not need to have your card with you, it is required for borrowing. It is best to return the books to where you got them (small or large children’s department) or downstairs at the reception. You can also return books to biblioboxes – but only books! You then return board games, playful backpacks and pencils Albi directly to the children’s department – we have to check the contents and functionality. Do not return the book to the shelf, but give it to the librarian so that he/she can write it off from your account.

What happens if I don’t return the books on time?

Reminders will start going to your email and you will pay a fine. The late fee is CZK 2 per item per day.

What happens if I lose or damage the loan?

Come to report the loss or damage and arrange a replacement. No one will bite your head off, it can happen to anyone.

Can I reserve a book?

The reader can apply for a reservation in person or independently in the form of a virtual visit on the website of the library via the Internet catalog. Log in to your account and search for the book you are interested in. When it is borrowed, you will find a link to “request” in the Details about specimens. You can confirm your reservation there. Reservation of borrowed documents is charged CZK 10, if the document is . If the book is not borrowed and you still want to reserve it, you will find the “order” button there. Such a loan is not charged. We will also bring you titles from the Ohrazenice depository for free.

How does e-book lending work?

You can register for free on the portal https://www.palmknihy.cz/ using the same email address that you entered in the reader account of the library catalog.
You download the Palmknihy application to your device and log into it in the same way.
After logging into your account, you can search for e-books in the online library catalog and download them to your application (the limit is 5 books per month). The books are then available for 31 days.

What are Biblioboxes for?

Biblioboxes are special boxes. Used to return books when the library is closed. You can certainly return books there as well – but be careful, only books! Do not put magazines, CDs or games in there. One located on the side of the library (opposite the bell tower) and the other to the right of the main entrance in a niche. You will also find similarly marked Biblioboxes scattered around the city.

We look forward to your visit!
