Meetings and Festivals

Activities and opportunities to spend time together.

Throughout the year, we create opportunities to meet. Our goal is to offer a variety of experiences and connect the community with the same interests.

A Night with Andersen

A night with Andersen is an exceptional event that libraries support children’s reading. It was held for the first time in 2000 in Uherské Hradiště, where a night adventure started. This project quickly gained popularity and in the following years spread to dozens of libraries, schools and other institutions throughout the Czech Republic, Slovakia and other countries. In addition to reading fairy tales, it gives children the opportunity to participate in various competitions, create poems and communicate with other libraries via the Internet.

The regional library in Pardubice has been involved since 2008. Once a year at the end of March, it opens its premises for adventures, reading, games and spending the night. The event is intended for children in the first grade of elementary school.

How to register for the event? We open registration for children in February of each year. Information will be in the news and on this page.

BOok!Con

Every year, festivals and meetings focusing on fantasy of all kinds are organized in libraries across the country. They started in the Fantasy weekends organized in Dobříš, but they also found their partner in Prague’s Coniáš and other cons (which is an abbreviation for a convention of sci-fi and fantasy fans). The current name refers to the most famous librarian of the world of Terry Pratchett, who loves bananas and, despite his high erudition, uses only one word: Ook.

The Pardubice Library organizes BOok!Con every autumn on selected Fridays and Saturdays.

This year’s edition will take place on 11 and 12 October 2024. Anime and manga are the main motif.

You can look forward to:

  • boardgames
  • escape game
  • LARP Ook!
  • pen and paper RPG
  • workshops

Booking to selected blocks of the program will be available here.

Children’s Book Day

Children’s Book Day, organized since 2013, traditionally takes place on the Saturday before the first Sunday of Advent and symbolically opens the Advent season. This children’s book festival offers a rich program for all visitors, with an emphasis on children, who can participate in competitions and win a year’s free admission to the library. Other cultural institutions are also involved in the project, such as the East Bohemian Museum in Pardubice, U Jonáše Gallery, GAMPA, Spere and Divadlo 29 Theater. Visitors can attend creative workshops, concerts and theater performances. This event is part of the Advent program of the Pardubice Region.

Read Summer

Read Summer is comes from the successful Slovak project. The organization Krajina čiteľov, Slovakian bookstore Martinus and Malý Pampúch are behind the project.

In the Czech Republic, the Mravenčí chůva took over the initiative and the our library joined the project in 2024.

An inspirational brochure is prepared every summer to support your reading experience. The booklet is intended for both adults and children and guides you through three main topics and nine subtopics. Each topic includes tips for books, activities and a Children’s Passport in which children can record their summer experiences. You can download and print the brochure, and the individual sheets can be easily combined into one book.

In the children’s department, it is possible to pick up a brochure, but also to view books on the topic of the given week.

Read with Beksa

In 2017, the Pardubice Regional Library in cooperation with BK JIP Pardubice, launched a new project “Read with Beksa”, which is aimed at pupils of the 2nd and 3rd grades of elementary schools in Pardubice. The goal of the project is to connect sports and culture, where young readers can discuss books with sports icons from the basketball team. The project attracted a lot of interest and continues successfully every year.
