We offer links to quality contemporary children’s literature.
Service of Czech libraries
For many years, Czech libraries have been preparing lists of interesting and readable children’s literature that they provide to educators. The lists are sorted according to age categories, although this is only an indicative order and it always depends on the child’s reading maturity and interest.
- Hradec Králové City Library followed up on earlier similar projects and now organizes the School Reading Festival, where it publishes a selection of the latest books.
- The Moravian Library publishes tips for children’s books according to selected years as part of the Knihovny.cz portal. The offer is constantly being updated.
In addition, there are several websites with a selection of the best for children’s readers. Below you will find a list of useful links that will make it easier for you to navigate the issue.
- The Children’s Book Commission of the SČKN and the Czech Section of the IBBY created the Best Children’s Books project, in which they annually recommend new Czech books for children and youth. The catalog serves for orientation to booksellers, libraries, schools, but also to parents and the wider public. You will also find lists from previous years there.
- Children’s books are published as part of Magnesia Litera. From 2023, not only the winners, but also other recommended titles are published. It is also possible to find the winners of older years on the website.
- The Golden Ribbon children’s book award is also announced every year. Winners of older years can also be viewed on the website.
- The J. A. Comenius National Pedagogical Museum and Library annually announces the Prize for Literature for Children and Young People “Suk – we all read” to support reading literacy with the new name Kniha dětského srdce, the V. F. Suk Prize. The readers themselves vote and thus create their own ranking of the most popular books. The winners of previous years are also available for viewing.
