How does the past return to contemporary thinking, art, and popular culture? Answers will be offered by the interdisciplinary symposium Ways of Return | Exploring the Past in Science and Culture, which will take place on Wednesday, November 6, at 10:00 a.m. in the Universal Hall of the Pardubice Regional Library. The event is organized by the Department of Literary Culture of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Pardubice in cooperation with the Pardubice Regional Library. Admission is free.
The program will feature Czech and foreign guests who will focus on various forms of returns – from literary reinterpretations to musical and popular cultural reflections to philosophical and spiritual contexts. Contributions will include Doctor Who and (re)visioning figures of the past, Journeys back to the past of Czech comics and the reconstruction of its canon, The ancient Greek concept of eros in the contexts of contemporary Slovak rap, Visiting tradition in the practice of creative writing, and Occultism as a path of return.
The symposium offers an inspiring space for those interested in how the past shapes the present and how our ability to “return”—to history, stories, and ideas—is changing in today’s world. Come and see the past through different eyes and discover that returning can be just as adventurous as discovering new paths.
