Městská knihovna Děčín and Statutární město Děčín have launched the 28th annual Vladimír Vokolek Literary Award, a competition for young poets from across the Czech Republic. The award is named after the Děčín poet and essayist and has long been one of the platforms that help discover new creative voices.
This year, authors aged 15–35 can submit their poems, divided into three age categories. Each participant can submit a collection of poems of up to ten pages; the submitted texts are judged anonymously so that the jury can evaluate the quality of the work exclusively.
The deadline for the competition is December 31, 2025. The results will be announced during the first quarter of 2026, when an award ceremony and public reading of the winning works will take place. The winning texts will also be published in an anthology.
We are happy to share this call for entries because the name Vokolků has a long tradition here in Pardubice. Our Library Center U Vokolků is named in honor of this important printing family, so the competition has a natural symbolic connection to our library.
If you write poetry or know talented poets, don’t hesitate to encourage them to participate – we wish you good luck.
